Ma Chung University officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation with PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia on February 26, 2026. This signing marks a strategic step for Ma Chung University as the first university-level partner of PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia and the only higher education institution in Malang to establish an official collaboration with the organization.

This cooperation serves as an important milestone in strengthening Ma Chung University’s commitment to plastic waste management, circular economy development, and increasing social awareness within the academic environment.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Stefanus Yufra M. Taneo, MS., M.Sc., as the Rector of Ma Chung University, expressed his appreciation for the trust given by PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia in his welcome remarks.

“On behalf of the academic community of Ma Chung University, I welcome you to our campus. We are grateful for the trust,” he said.

He emphasized that this collaboration does not only focus on environmental issues but also covers circular economy, social, and cultural aspects. This cooperation is in line with Ma Chung University’s vision to provide a real contribution as a creative and impactful higher education institution.

As the first partner at the university level, Ma Chung University has a strategic role in integrating PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia’s programs into the campus ecosystem. The academic community is expected to be actively involved in various activities.

This program is also considered to be in line with the soft skill development programs at Ma Chung University, where students are encouraged to collect activity points through various activities with social and environmental impacts.

“PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia’s activities are very much in line with our student programs. They are trained to have social concern, one of which is through participation in activities that have a direct impact on the environment and society,” added Prof. Yufra.

Meanwhile, the Country Director of PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia, Frederick R. Saman, expressed appreciation for Ma Chung University’s willingness to be a pioneer of cooperation at the university level. He explained that Indonesia is among the countries with high levels of plastic pollution and faces socio-economic challenges related to these issues.

“PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia strives to address plastic issues as well as poverty. We see a link between a country’s status with high pollution levels and the socio-economic issues of the community,” he explained.

Moving forward, this partnership is not limited to plastic collection activities but also opens opportunities for collaboration in research, community service, and the development of academic innovations involving lecturers and students.

Through this MoU, Ma Chung University and PT. Plastic Bank Indonesia are optimistic about bringing a sustainable positive impact to the environment, society, and the world of education in Malang and Indonesia.
